Taking a Cruise during the Christmas Period

If the thought of spending Christmas cooped up in cold, snowy Britain doesn’t appeal to you, then why not look at taking a cruise holiday over the festive season. You could escape to somewhere warm and sunny with a cruise to the idyllic Caribbean or down under to Australia.

During the festive season, the majority of cruise lines lavishly decorate their ships with Christmas trees, decorations and fairy lights. This creates a wonderful atmosphere onboard and allows passengers to experience the magic of the Christmas period whilst on holiday.

The Caribbean could be the perfect spot for you if you don’t thrive in cold weather. The Caribbean is temperate year round and you could even end up spending Christmas day relaxing on a white sandy beach with a fruity cocktail in hand.

If you decide to cruise to Australia over the festive period, you could join in with the Aussie tradition of spending Christmas day on the beach and having a barbeque for Christmas dinner! That couldn’t be any more different than the traditional Christmas dinner in the UK!

The Canary Islands is also another great destination you could cruise to during Christmas and New Year. Due to their geographical position near Africa, the Canaries are blessed with warm weather all year round. During December the temperatures are in the early twenties- perfect for relaxing onboard by the pool.

There are generally some great deals for cruises within the Mediterranean over the festive period. The weather within the Mediterranean can be entirely changeable during this time of year. It could be bright, sunny and temperately warm, or it could be pouring with rain! However, if the weather isn’t a big issue of concern for you, then it could be a great bargain holiday for you and your family.

The gorgeous island of Madeira is reputed to have some of the very best New Year’s celebrations in the world. Many cruise ships dock in Funchal, the capital of the island to bring in the new year. The streets of the city get dressed with thousands of colourful lights and the fireworks celebrations are world renowned. The best place to see the fireworks from afar can even be from the comfort of the cruise ship with a celebratory glass of champagne firmly in hand.

Why not take a look at the different cruise holidays available over the festive period and bring in the new year in an exciting and foreign land.
